Cancun: Our Home Base

DSCN5482

I generally consider myself a very cheap traveler.  I stay at the cheapest hostels (that still have decent customer reviews) and love eating at food stands or local places.  However, when planning a spring break trip with a small group of friends, many of which were first time travelers, we eventually settled on something much different than I'm used to: An all-inclusive resort.

Thanks to comparison shopping and taking advantage of promotional discounts, we actually ended up with a pretty good deal, which was quite surprising for me.  So, off we went.  Five days and four nights soaking up the glorious beaches and delicious food of Mexico.

Our resort, the Barceló Costa Cancun, featured four on-site restaurants, two bars (including one on the beach!) a large swimming pool, nightly entertainment, and a nice little section of private beach.  There were also several amenities we did not take advantage of which included a spa, kid's club, off-site excursions, and water equipment rentals.

Though I'm pretty sure that I'll be returning to cheap vacations in the future, I have to admit that it was nice to be able to completely relax without worrying about finding the best cheap places to eat or having to learn all of the nuances of the local transportation system.

And really, who's going to complain when you're reading a book on the beach and a waiter walks over to ask if they can get you another frozen drink...
